Vango & National Trust release eco-friendly camping range for Earth Day
The UK's chief camping and outdoor equipment brand, Vango, has teamed up with Europe's leading conservation charity, the National Trust*, to produce a range of eco-friendly tents and sleeping bags in time for Earth Day 2021.
The collection of camping gear is made from recycled plastic bottles found discarded in seas, waterways, streets and landfills. In all, more than 269,700 plastic bottles were used to create a new Sentinel EcoTM fabric, which has led to what's said to be the first camping collection made from recycled plastic bottles in the world.
Each tent uses between 69 and 301 plastic bottles, depending on size, while the sleeping bag collection uses a polyester fill made from 100% recycled bottles.
The initial collection is available exclusively at GO Outdoors* with a minimum of £20,000 going towards National Trust conservation projects through the contributions made from the sale of each tent and sleeping bag.
Of the range, Rob Birrell, Vango's Marketing Director said: "The National Trust looks after coastline and countryside in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, so both people and nature can thrive. The values it champions are perfectly aligned with those of our own at Vango.
"It seemed fitting that we should invest the time and effort into researching new ways of tent construction aligned with the need for all of us to be more environmentally conscious."
